  • New TOYO TC-70 Trac Wheel

New Toyo Trac Wheel Cutter Glass Accessories Int’l, will debut the new Toyo Trac Wheel (TC-70), oil glass cutter at Glass Build America, October 19-21, 2016. The Toyo Trac Wheel is a revolutionary new wheel featuring mirco-notches along the edge of the wheel. Trac Wheel notches provide traction for the wheel as it starts rolling on the glass, reducing chances of the wheel skipping especially at the start of a score. Manufacturing applications featuring this new wheel yield a significant increase in wheel life, clean scores and clean breakouts. The longer wheel life is attributed to reduced pressure being required to keep the wheel rolling on the glass. The notches which create traction for the wheel are measured in microns and not visible to the naked eye so there will be no effect on edge quality. Starting in the first quarter of 2017, the TC-70 will be available in both Pattern and Straight blade options. Trac Wheel replacement blades will be available at the same time as the cutter and will fit all Toyo cutters which currently accept the TC-10H and TC-17H blades. A Trac Wheel option is anticipated to be available on multiple handle styles later in 2017. Pricing for the Toyo Trac Wheel is expected to be the same as other Toyo cutters with similar handles.

  • Support Glass Art!

imageIn November of 2015, Steve and Vinery Glass Studio owner Denny Berkery were honored with stewardship of the Kay Bain Weiner Foundation.  The goal of the Foundation is promoting Art Glass to students and teachers.  In support of this effort Steve and Denny conceived the Glass Experience Madison to both teach exceptional glass art and raise money for continuing the Foundation’s mission. Though the art glass industry has been dealing with some unforeseen difficulties, it will go on and so will we!  See the Foundation’s post below from June 1, 2016 Glass Experience Madison is happening! While it’s understandable that some jitters about the glass industry future were present in the last few weeks, good news has also been present. Wissmach Glass in West Virginia announced that it is ramping up production and expanding its line. Uroboros glass in Portland is vowing to create much of the Spectrum colors which would otherwise be a gaping hole in our palettes with the loss of Spectrum coming this summer. Chronicled blood tests of citizens around the Bullseye plant have turned up no significant lead or heavy metals and Bullseye is aggressively working on modifications to its process to further reduce emissions and meet demands of the environmental governing bodies. Glass will go on! Let’s celebrate this good news and show support for the Art Glass Industry by participating in it! Join us at GEM for some amazing classes with fellow glass artists. Commiserate, laugh, learn, and enjoy a break from the news by backing the KBW Foundation in its efforts to promote the Art Glass Industry, all while expanding your artistic horizons. So many great classes to choose from, all in one location with amazingly talented teachers. You will leave GEM with a fire in your belly to create when you get home. We look forward to seeing you June 24-27 at the Vinery, sign up today! http://www.kbwfoundation.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4

  • Steve & Denny Berkery to Run KBW Foundation

In November of 2015 Steve and Denny Berkery, owner of the Vinery Stained Glass Studio in Madison, Wisconsin assumed leadership of the Kay Bain Weiner Foundation (KBW Foundation) from Kay Bain Weiner.  The Foundation’s mission is to stimulate interest and growth in the industry through educational projects. One of the goals of the group is to attract more people into the glass arena by providing scholarships, supplies, and books to high schools, colleges, and other educational venues.  Both Steve and Denny were touched by Kay’s choice of them to carry on her foundation. While the Foundation has some money to keep it running, it needs to continuously raise funds in order to carry out its mission.  One method of garnering income has been glass cruises which Kay, her late husband Herb and Marina Jennings have been running.  Another KBW Glass Cruise is scheduled to set sail in August of this year to Alaska.  Denny and Steve have decided to take another tack and run a glass event at the Vinery in Madison which has been dubbed, Glass Experience Madison (GEM).  GEM is a four day event offering five classes per day, in topics from lampworking to stained glass plating to mixed media mosaics.  Internationally known teachers such as Cathy Claycomb, Petra Kaiser, Marcy Lamberson, Laura Rendlen and Jennifer Walkovich will be teaching.  More information is soon to be released about this exciting new event that is scheduled for June 24-27, 2016.
